In this introduction, we will focus on how we perceive the world: physiology and psychology, as well as physiology vs technology, and how to use perception to our advantage. In the end, we will see how these guidelines apply to some production case studies.

LIGHTING: STRUCTURE
BREAK DOWN

Why light is one of the most challenging elements in GC history? In this module, you will understand the measuring of light, motivated vs physically based lighting, 3-point lighting, the 4 fundamental lighting setups, and how to shape the scene.

SCENE
COMPOSITION

2 HOURS

In this part of the program, you will find a guide to composition fundamentals, lighting priorities, and scopes. Scene deconstruction and construction, defining focus, and visual hierarchy. The composition is the ultimate guide that rules perception and lighting.

COLOR: THEORY
BUT PRACTICE

3 HOURS

Have you ever wondered: When did we define color? How do we define color? How do we define color? Physiology, technology, and metamerism. CIE-1930, spectral power distribution, lines of emission and absorption, gamuts and LUTs, HDR, pointer Gamut, and Rec-2020. The color harmony guidelines. All elements are fundamental to understanding modern production.

TECHNICAL DIRECTORS

In this module, we will investigate production pipelines from a technology, budget, and creative perspective. These are some of the topics covered:
-dealing with long daily cycles; lighting cheat-sheet; when to invest in development; investing in continuity elements; technology vs budgets vs creativity.
– pipeline fundamentals and flow; defining show, sequence; key and shot level elements; the key advantages of a destructive pipeline environment; and modular levels.
– minimizing shot and production costs using a projection network; pushing versus pulling published data; and naming conventions.

Daniele Tosti is a creative Supervisor, developer and manager with over 20 years of production experience in various fields of the entertainment business.
Covering multiple Production roles, such as CG Supervisor, Art Director, Lighting Supervisor, LookDev Lead, and Lead Technical Director, he has led and managed large teams to successful deadlines in various production types: from video games, to broadcast television and theatrically released feature films.

The average salary for a 3D Texture Artist is approximately US$69,232/year, with a range of around $47,000 to $96,000. However, many Texture Artists are also 3D Modelers, positions that require you to be both often earn more too.
