COURSE SYLLABUS

PERCEPTION FUNDAMENTALS

In this introduction, we will focus on how we perceive the world: physiology and psychology, as well as physiology vs technology, and how to use perception to our advantage. In the end, we will see how these guidelines apply to some production case studies.

LIGHTING: STRUCTURE BREAK DOWN

Why light is one of the most challenging elements in GC history? In this module, you will understand the measuring of light, motivated vs physically-based lighting, 3-point lighting, the 4 fundamental lighting setups, and how to shape the scene.

SCENE COMPOSITION

In this part of the program, you will find a guide to composition fundamentals, lighting priorities, and scopes. Scene deconstruction and construction, defining focus, and visual hierarchy. The composition is the ultimate guide that rules perception and lighting.

COLOR: THEORY BUT PRACTICE

Have you ever wondered: When did we define colour? How do we define colour? What we define colour? Physiology, technology, and metamerism. CIE-1930, spectral power distribution, lines of emission and absorption, gamuts and LUTs, HDR, pointer Gamut, and Rec-2020. The color harmony guidelines. All elements are fundamental to understanding modern production.
